Welcome to Flexplorer

As you walk up to the door of a non-descript, pale-colored warehouse in Geiranger, Norway, the door is opened by a friendly looking woman who seems to pick you from the crowd, because she looks straight at you and smiles. "Welcome to Flexplorer" she says, extending her hand to shake yours. "I’m Lucy. Please come in."

Moments later, you’re sitting at a table that is probably long out-of-fashion and is definitely worn-out from years of intense usage. As you sip your iced tea to cool down from the early Summer’s heat and busyness outside near the cruise ship docks, Lucy introduces you to the assignment.

"I wanted to meet you here because it’s a special place for us," Lucy says. She points to the surrounding open space, filled with boxes, workbenches, a coffee machine, some desks and the odd banner containing some branding. "As you may know, Geiranger was the original spot of inspiration for the company that is now Flexplorer. Our headquarters is back in Eindhoven in the Netherlands, where all the research and development takes place. Over there, we have access to all the brain power of the tech and mechanical engineering people in the region and are still close to Amsterdam and Rotterdam for all of the logistics we handle."

"Bron and I started Flexplorer when we visited Geiranger and had a terrific time exploring the surrounding area on an electrical scooter. We were both frequent travellers and loved the freedom of discovering new places at our own leisure, especially when there was some innovative and fun way to get around. We realised then that our opportunity was to help people create those experiences everywhere. We now have about 35 public and private clients in towns and regions all across Europe."

The rest of the conversation makes clear that Flexplorer’s growth has taken them from a small shop producing various vehicles for tourism rentals to a full services organisation that standardises and automates all processes related to experience vehicle tourism.

"We started modelling our processes with little experience and quickly came across BPMN and decided to standardise on that", Lucy explains.

"We made some inroads with the original models but were unsatisfied when we came across some more specific situations we wanted to capture. That’s when we realised we needed help and Henry got in touch with you. We’d love to get started by looking at some of our current models and seeing which steps we can take to improve them."
